Jean Peters Baker good choice for Jackson County prosecutor

Though she`s been on the job for a few weeks, Jean Peters Baker was ceremonially sworn in today as the Jackson County prosecutor.
By all accounts, county Executive Mike Sanders made a good pick with Peters Baker. She went into the office with a take-charge attitude and quickly tackled some of the problems that have festered over the past couple of years, including the withholding of evidence in criminal trials. Since Peters Baker has taken over, the prosecutors office has been much better about releasing information to the media and public.
Peters Baker worked for 14 years as an assistant prosecutor, most recently as the chief warrant officer. She left and was elected to a seat in the Missouri House. When Jim Kanatzar vacated the prosecutor`s seat, Peters Baker apparently discerned she had a better chance of making an impact there than serving as a Democrat in the legislature. She should be a formidable candidate when the seat comes up for election in the fall of 2012.
